My body, my rights, our freedom: connecting sexual and reproductive health rights and LGBTIQ movements

This session of the Queer Youth Dialogues will consider how the sexual and reproductive health and rights and LGBTIQ movements can join efforts around shared purpose and collaborate more effectively in the decade ahead. 

 

The discussion will include a panel followed by a guided discussion between youth activists.

Capacity Building in Fundraising: A practical workshop with CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality

This workshop session will create a shared understanding of the donor perspective, discuss how youth-led organizations can build capacity in accessing funding, and provide opportunity for participants to discuss particular issues, workshop solutions, and connect with the members of the Global Queer Youth Network.

Panel Discussion: A Decade of Action: building a new youth movement for LGBTIQ human rights

Held on the 23rd of July 2021, this inter-generational online panel discussion across two sessions. The panel was co-moderated by the United Nations Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth, Ms. Jayathma Wickramanayake and the UN Independent Expert on sexual orientation and gender identity (IE SOGI), Victor Madrigal-Borloz.

Live Stream - Creative Celebration: Global LGBTIQ+ Artists

On September 10th 2021 we hosted a live stream event featuring three LGBTIQ+ artists from three global regions. The event is a celebration of the creative power present in the young LGBTIQ+ community.

Capacity Building Session 1:  Security Basics for Activism in a Digital Age

The potential power of online activity for global LGBTIQ movements is far reaching; particularly for LGBTIQ youth, many of whom are considered digital natives.

 

In response to this opportunity and in acknowledgement of this risk, the Global Queer Youth Network is facilitating an ongoing series of capacity building sessions and the creation of resources which directly respond to the present needs of LGBTIQ youth activists engaging in online activity.

Speed Networking: Global Queer Youth Network X Global Center

Held on the 18th of August 2021, this live and in person event was facilitated as part of the Democracy 1:1 Festival in partnership with the Global Center.

This event invited attendees to participate in speed-networking. With opening remarks from the United Nations Secretary General's Envoy on Youth, Ms. Jauathma Wickramanayake and facilitation provided by ILGA World's consultant to Youth, Mr. Oscar Noel Fitzpatrick.

Town Hall - Queerly politics: a dialogue with elected LGBTIQ representatives from around the world

On September 13th 2021 we will hosted an online Town Hall Queerly Politics, this event invited elected young LGBTIQ+ representatives from around the world, to hear their motivations for seeking political office, the challenges they have faced, and the opportunities they’ve had to change legislation and policies as a result of their position.

Advocating for a better future: exploring intersections between the Climate, Peacebuilding and LGBTIQ youth movements

This session of the Queer Youth Dialogues will explore and highlight the intersections between different agendas, the challenges to acknowledge them and the mutual benefits of doing so.
