September 13th at 16:00 CET
This session of the Queer Youth Dialogues will focus on promoting young LGBTIQ people’s right and inspiring them to participate in different political and civic spaces, such as elections, constitution-making processes, political parties and parliaments.
This will be a town hall meeting, with a discussion moderated by a youth activist. Each panelist will share their story and then participate in a question and answer session, with questions submitted by young participants in advance.
In the first segment, speakers will be asked to share about their own experiences as young LGBTIQ people getting involved in politics and to discuss how decision-makers, CSOs and the wider LGBTIQ movement can ensure meaningful participation of youth at all levels.
Following that, to promote a dialogue, the moderator will ask some of the questions submitted by the audience to the speakers.
By joining the session:
-
Young people should have increased motivation to stand for elected office (at all levels) in their home countries
-
LGBTIQ youth will be more inspired to take ownership and lead the policy conversations that impact their lives
-
Decision makers within UN agencies and member states will better understand the needs, challenges and aspirations the LGBTIQ+ community
-
Participants will have increased awareness of the challenges faced by LGBTIQ+ politicians and candidates.
